Residential Street Parking

Information on how to get street parking permits in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

What is a Residential Street Parking Permit?

The City of Ann Arbor and the City of Ypsilanti provide Residential Parking Permits (or RPP's) for residents to park legally on the street in areas where parking is scarce and on-street parking is restricted to the public. Each City has mapped certain streets and areas and labeled them as neighborhoods. Mapped on each City's website, each neighborhood allows a certain number of permits per year. The year is not a calendar year; both cities have the permits good for September 1-August 31 each year. When obtained by the City of Ann Arbor or the City of Ypsilanti, tenants are given the pass to display in their vehicles.

How do I get a Residential Street Parking Permit?

Permits must be purchased and approved by the relevant City. The City Ann Arbor appears to offer permits during a specific time period each year, but we recommend to contact them directly to check.

The cost for an Ann Arbor permit for the 2022 year was $66 (total for the year).

The cost for an Ypsilanti permit since 2022 has been $34 (total for the year).

Along with vehicle information and a driver's license, you will need a signed lease agreement to purchase your permit. You can find a copy of your signed lease agreement via your portal.
