Setting Up a Window AC Unit

This article will help you with the process of setting up an AC unit in your room.

AC Units

Many properties in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area do not have built-in air conditioning. For the summer months, it may be a good idea to set up an AC unit in your window. At Baker Street, we allow for AC units to be installed at any of our properties, but you must receive permission from us first. Lowe’s has an in-depth article on how to properly install an AC Unit.

Energy Costs

AC units are one of the largest consumers of energy during the summer months. If you are using an AC unit, expect your energy usage and bill to be higher than usual. There are some common sense practices you can use to reduce the amount of energy consumption when you have an AC unit installed.

  • Turn off your AC unit when you leave the house.
  • Change the functions on your AC unit, such as digital temperature controls, variable fan speeds, and sleep settings to improve efficiency.
  • Only turn on the AC unit when you are in the room with the unit.

Be Safe

Baker Street wants all tenants to stay safe, and AC units can be heavy and cumbersome. We recommend using two people to install the unit so that it does not fall on top of you or out of the window.

If you feel uncomfortable setting up your own AC unit, please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help!
